DSPNW @SSPP Invited Joint Session: “The Embodied Brain”
The Deep South Philosophy and Neuroscience Workgroup provides opportunities for interactions between philosophers with interests in science and mind, and neuroscientists with philosophical interests about their field. We also seek to disseminate opportunities for philosopher-neuroscientist interactions in various media and formats. The Workgroup’s name derives from its initial regional focus, reflecting the relatively large number of philosophers interested in neuroscience who held academic positions at universities and colleges in the American South, as well as the presence of numerous strong neuroscience departments, institutes and programs in the region. However, since the organization’s inception in 2018, we’ve increased our reach, both nationally and internationally. We welcome participants worldwide who share our interdisciplinary research interests. In addition to holding an annual meeting at Pensacola Beach, Florida each fall, we organize smaller meetings in conjunction with the Philosophy of Science Association (PSA), the American Philosophical Association (APA), and the Southern Society for Philosophy and Psychology (SSPP). We became an Affiliated Group of the APA in 2020, and of the PSA in 2024. We maintain an email list of participants at our events and publish a web site (deepsouthphilneuro.com) advertising current and future events, and archiving programs, advertising materials, and photographs from all past events.
